Whether you’re planning to throw a party for your school club or hosting a corporate event, let the preppy style inspire chic party ideas!

Show off the lovely combination of dark red, pink, and various tones of black and white at your bash. 

The best way to channel the preppy verve is to seek inspiration from celebrity preps. And who’s more quintessentially chic and Ivy League looking than Ralph Lauren and the stars from the hit show Gossip Girl? Explore the prep world from books like The Official Preppy Handbook, films like Dead Poets Society and Wedding Crashers, and even blogs such as The Preppy Life and Let’s Be Preppy.

Etiquette is very important for preps, so make sure to dress accordingly. For a semi-formal to formal function, girls could wear something vintage inspired like the 1950s full-skirted halter neck polka dot dress and ball gowns with matching gloves, stoles, or capelets. For the boys, they can look dashing by putting on tailored suits, dress shoes, suspenders, bow ties, and pocket squares. 

In a more casual tone, you can achieve a polished and pleasing look by mixing and matching Polo and Oxford shirts, cable-knit cardigans and vests, blazers, chinos, khakis, madras plaid, Bermuda shorts, and skirts. The girls can wear knee high socks with ballet flats or heeled Mary Janes with matching headbands, grosgrain ribbons, simple pearl jewellery, and quilted handbags. While sporting ribbon belts, neckties, and boat shoes without socks is classic preppy male fashion.

And of course, the celebration won’t be complete without great food—tea sandwiches, quiches, shrimp cocktails, chicken linguine, beef negimaki, berry cream tarts and shortcakes, wine coolers, and pink champagne. As for the invitations and decor, choose or create ones with common preppy elements like stripes, polka dots, monograms, and nautical designs.
